In 2000, Roth completed a documentary photography project commissioned by the Los Angeles Public Library, entitled “Inside/Out: Downtown Los Angeles”, that challenged long held perceptions of the city’s center, and illuminated the cultural and ethnic diversity of the downtown area of Los Angeles. The resulting images were exhibited at the Los Angeles Public Library from July 1- September 24, 2000, to coincide with the Democratic National Convention. In August of 2001, Roth's second book was published by Angel City Press, entitled “Real City, Downtown Los Angeles Inside/Out”, which incorporated many of the images from the Library project. The accompanying text to "Real City" by D.J.Waldie.
