Marissa Roth visited this Himalayan kingdom in the fall of 1991, during their annual Tsechu Festival. Monks and locals citizens gathered in the Dzongs, the grand white and red buildings that serve as both monasteries and seats of government, to commemorate the arrival of Buddhism to Bhutan with ceremonial dances and spiritual events.
